Two Very Different Seasons
The dry season runs roughly May to September — the most reliable weather for beach days, surfing and long drives across the island's interior. It's also the busiest window for luxury travel on Sumba, so book well ahead.
The wet season, December to March, brings the island's savannah hills back to green and short, heavy afternoon showers rather than all-day rain. It's quieter, and it's when the Pasola festival — Sumba's ceremonial horseback spear-throwing ritual — usually takes place.
